How to keep Kids Entertained on a Party Boat in Toronto.

Plan Interactive Games and Activities

Keeping kids occupied is not that difficult with a variety of games that not only entertain but also capture and stir their imagination. One popular game like scavenger hunt can be modified to accommodate the maritime schedule with the objects being used during the hunt as pieces of gear such as life jackets, buoys, or even identifying some landmarks such as the CN Tower or Toronto Islands. Teens however, could be entertained through a friendly competition with games like I Spy where Toronto’s skyline is used as the backdrop or a quiz comprising fun boat facts might be the of interest.

Incorporate Water-Based Fun

Since you happen to be on a boat, it would probably be a great idea to utilize the water itself, If the sun is shining and you happen to be in a safe and calm spot, then a supervised swim can be the best thing to do, making kids of all ages happy. Bringing inflatables, pool noodles, or even small inflatable toys for kids to play with may be a great way to make the kids have a better time. Additionally, if you have a yacht that is equipped with fishing gear, then you can organize a mini fishing session. The little ones will be excited to catch a fish even if it is done just for fun. They can also take the help of waterproof disposable cameras or a phone with a camera (under adult supervision) to take the beautiful pictures of nature and later create their own boat adventure photo journal.

Bring Along Child-Friendly Foods and Beverages

No party boat experience is ever complete without great treats, particularly for kids. Provide them with an assortment of finger foods from little sandwiches, fruit skewers, and snack-sized goodies to keep them going. There are themed foods such as goldfish crackers or watermelon boats that can be employed in order to build another exciting element to the experience

In terms of drinks, think of colorful mocktails presented in interesting cups with funny straws for making the kids feeling special. If your considering renting a boat package including catering, then definitely have a discussion with Gone Sailing Adventures about the kid-friendly menu to get the taste buds of everyone covered.

Create a Themed Adventure

Themed events are what kids crave for and adding a theme to your boat cruise Toronto would merely be a step above to make the whole fun spread out. Should your kid be a superheroes’ enthusiast, then you might suggest your guests dressing up as the characters most loved by them and organizing a save the day mission with easy tasks. Themed music playlists and decorations can also be used to elevate the mood and their experience on water.

Make Sure Kids are Safe while Having Fun

Keeping kids busy and happy, and making sure that they are safe, is the most important thing to be done. Teach children basic safety rules on the water before going out on the water boat, for example, they should stay seated while the boat is moving and wear life jackets at all times. When safety and behavior expectations have been made clear from the beginning, you can be assured that the children are having fun and their too safety guaranteed.

Plan for Downtime with Quiet Activities

Even the most playful kids will need a break. Preparing a small package of reading materials, puzzles, interactive games is always a good idea when they inexplicably feel the need to take a break.

Capture the Memories

The experience of a party boat is something kids will definitely want to recall after many years. Create a do-it-yourself photo booth with fun items such as pirate hats, sailor scarves, or huge sunglasses and let the kids take turns posing for pictures

In Toronto, hosting a family-friendly party boat is never meant to be stressful or wild. YOUR SAFETY IS AT RISK

When considering chartering a yacht in Canada, we know you have many options. Some of these options look super exciting and at ridiculously great prices. Recent trends in the industry have opened the door for many unqualified individuals to purchase boats and offer charter services to the unsuspecting public. It’s easy to create a website and even easier to just list a boat on sites such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, Getmyboat, Boat Setter and many others.

Unfortunately, many of these operators are NOT licensed, insured or qualified to accept your trust on the water.

In order to be licensed and insured a number of items MUST be in place. Listed are just a few.

  • The operator must be licensed by Transport Canada with a commercial license known as either:
    – Limited Master under 60tonne.
    – Small Vessel Operators Permit (SVOP).
  • The name of the vessel must be visible on the stern (back) or the registration number beginning with the letter “C” must be visible on the side of the vessel near the front. Boats with a registration number beginning with “ON” are not licensed for passengers.
  • If the vessel is under 12m (40’) it should participate in the Transport Canada Small Vessel Compliance Program and display a “Blue Decal” and have corresponding certificate.
  • If the vessel is over 12m (40’) or carries more than 12 passengers, it MUST BE INSPECTED by Transport Canada and have an inspection certificate on board.
  • All vessels must have commercial liability insurance and coverage specifically for the number of passengers approved to be carried on board.
  • The vessel must comply with commercial safety requirements beyond recreational standards. Many of these illegal operators do not have the proper training, carry proper safety equipment, nor do their recreational boats meet the design/construction requirements of a commercial, passenger carrying vessel. These illegal operators try to stay under the radar of Police/OPP/RCMP/Transport Canada by:
  • hiding the name of their vessel by hanging items over the stern
  • not letting you know where they will have you board until just before the start of your charter.
  • pick you up at a public park (where docking is not permitted).
  • suggest to you that you are friends of the owner/operator out for a ride and not a paying customer.
  • allow you to drink alcohol while the boat is underway (illegal-same as a car) but tell you to hide your bottles etc.
  • insist on a cash transaction or part of it as a way of defrauding the internet listing company.
  • Make you sign a “Charter Agreement” just before you board without giving you details of the document beforehand.

Over the last few years there have been a number of deaths and even more accidents resulting from these types of operators. Be safe and know who you are getting on a boat with. All licensed operators should willingly display their credentials, and most are members of the Passenger & Commercial Vessel Association (PCVA).
