Toronto’s waterfront is known for its serene views, vibrant harbors, and and scenic skyline, alongside the unending hub of activities going on. For most tourists, visiting Lake Ontario by the Gone Adventure yachts is one of the most unforgettable ways to experience Toronto’s beauty. However, for individuals living with disability, accessing a rewarding boating experience may prove extra difficult. At Gone Sailing Adventure, we ensure that all our clients get a chance to enjoy Ontario’s water, regardless of their physical capabilities. Thus, we provide an inclusive boat rental option that allows all our guests to comfortably and safely enjoy their time in Toronto. The purpose of this guide is to highlight how we make our package empowering and accessible for people living with different forms of physical disabilities.

How Gone Sailing Adventure Promotes Service Accessibility

Gone Sailing Adventure has become an increasingly inclusive enterprise. For years, disabled people have faced significant challenges when boating due to factors such as the availability of inadequately trained personnel, inaccessible washrooms, and narrow ramps, among other problems. Gone Sailing Adventure is, however, proud of our shift toward more inclusive naval tours. We have revised our yacht rental Toronto packages to ensure that inclusivity is a foundation, not only a feature. We believe that everyone deserves an enjoyable and peaceful adventure, soaking in the view of Toronto and exploring the Lake Toronto water.

Factor Making our Boat Accessible

We have thoroughly chosen yachts that can serve tourists with different sensory and mobility needs. The following are key accessibility features that can only be found in our Toronto boat rentals:

  • Wheelchair-friendly boarding pathway
  • Flat and spacious decks
  • Secure seating and parking spaces for wheelchairs
  • Experienced employees knowledgeable about safety and accessibility needs for people with disabilities
  • Sensor-friendly low-noise engine for people with sensory problems

Each design has been carefully selected and installed to ensure the most enjoyable and smooth experience.

Customize Experience for Individual Needs

Gone Sailing Adventure also prioritizes tailoring our service. We acknowledge that we cannot rely on one-size-fits-all accessibility adjustments. Therefore, when a client books a yacht rental Toronto package with us, our trained employees work ahead of the deadline to capture all your accessibility preferences and needs. From boarding assistance for wheelchair users to communication assistance. Your safety and comfort are important to us.

Ideal Routes

Gone Ailing Adventure explores several calm and captivating routes that support accessibility. Our key picks include

  • Harbourfront Cruise—This destination guarantees a beautiful view of the city skyline, and it is convenient for first-time visitors or those seeking a short trip.
  • Toronto Island—This destination offers a peaceful ride with opportunities to visit green spaces, lighthouses, and wildlife. Tourists can also request stopovers to take pictures or videos.
  • Sunset Sail—This destination allows visitors to enjoy calm water and a golden skyline as they watch the sunset. The Sunset Sail is considered one of the most scenic and peaceful trips for people with disabilities.

Overall, we consider factors such as accessibility and water turbulence for all our selections to guarantee a beautiful and safe experience for everyone.

Gone Sailing Adventure’s Safety Adjustments

We understand that every guest prioritizes their safety above all else, particularly those with disabilities. Thus, we have executed several safety protocols in all our Toronto boat rentals. They include

  • Secure tie-downs for wheelchairs and other mobility devices
  • Experienced employee able to quickly respond to emergencies
  • Safety briefing customized for people living with disabilities

The measures ensure our clients sail knowing their safety and well-being are at the core of our service delivery.

Gone Sailing Adventure’s Accommodation of support personnel

Our company welcomes companions, support staff, and professional caregivers onboard all our yacht rental Toronto cruises. Potential clients planning to be accompanied by their designated support personnel are only required to include the same during booking to allow us to secure a comfortable pace for them as well. We are also able to accommodate specialized seating and medical equipment if needed. Moreover, we work with organizations and inclusivity groups to ensure we extend these adjustments to group trips like family gatherings, community outings, birthday and milestone achievement celebrations, advocacy events, or retreats. Gone Sailing works with both individuals and organizations to customize accessibility adventures and ensure everyone enjoys them.

YOUR SAFETY IS AT RISK

When considering chartering a yacht in Canada, we know you have many options. Some of these options look super exciting and at ridiculously great prices. Recent trends in the industry have opened the door for many unqualified individuals to purchase boats and offer charter services to the unsuspecting public. It’s easy to create a website and even easier to just list a boat on sites such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, Getmyboat, Boat Setter and many others.

Unfortunately, many of these operators are NOT licensed, insured or qualified to accept your trust on the water.

In order to be licensed and insured a number of items MUST be in place. Listed are just a few.

  • The operator must be licensed by Transport Canada with a commercial license known as either:
    – Limited Master under 60tonne.
    – Small Vessel Operators Permit (SVOP).
  • The name of the vessel must be visible on the stern (back) or the registration number beginning with the letter “C” must be visible on the side of the vessel near the front. Boats with a registration number beginning with “ON” are not licensed for passengers.
  • If the vessel is under 12m (40’) it should participate in the Transport Canada Small Vessel Compliance Program and display a “Blue Decal” and have corresponding certificate.
  • If the vessel is over 12m (40’) or carries more than 12 passengers, it MUST BE INSPECTED by Transport Canada and have an inspection certificate on board.
  • All vessels must have commercial liability insurance and coverage specifically for the number of passengers approved to be carried on board.
  • The vessel must comply with commercial safety requirements beyond recreational standards. Many of these illegal operators do not have the proper training, carry proper safety equipment, nor do their recreational boats meet the design/construction requirements of a commercial, passenger carrying vessel. These illegal operators try to stay under the radar of Police/OPP/RCMP/Transport Canada by:
  • hiding the name of their vessel by hanging items over the stern
  • not letting you know where they will have you board until just before the start of your charter.
  • pick you up at a public park (where docking is not permitted).
  • suggest to you that you are friends of the owner/operator out for a ride and not a paying customer.
  • allow you to drink alcohol while the boat is underway (illegal-same as a car) but tell you to hide your bottles etc.
  • insist on a cash transaction or part of it as a way of defrauding the internet listing company.
  • Make you sign a “Charter Agreement” just before you board without giving you details of the document beforehand.

Over the last few years there have been a number of deaths and even more accidents resulting from these types of operators. Be safe and know who you are getting on a boat with. All licensed operators should willingly display their credentials, and most are members of the Passenger & Commercial Vessel Association (PCVA).
