There is something magical about being on the beach, with the wind in your hair, the sun on your face, and the waves lapping at your boat. Whether you’re cruising by Lake Ontario on a boat cruise Toronto experience or hiring a yacht for yourself, one thing is certain: you can’t do without delicious food. The right snack selections may make your stay on the ship more pleasurable, keeping your team satiated and motivated during your journey. At Gone Sailing Adventure, we are well-versed in the process of organizing the best boat rental in Toronto. With that said, we’ve compiled a list of our top five snack assortments for a boat excursion. They are simple to transport, non-messy, and they go perfectly with that fresh lake air.

1. Fresh Fruit & Cheese Skewers with Crackers

Why it is so good: This combo is very light, refreshing, and easily soothing. Cubes of cheddar, gouda, or brie go well with grapes, strawberries, and melon chunks. Best suited for: Afternoons on the deck of a chartered yacht in Toronto, ideally when accompanied by some chilled white wine or sparkling water. Extra tip: Place a side of a few multigrain or sea salt crackers. They are robust, delicious, and match with the tasty cheese like no one.

2. Mini Sandwich Wraps & Veggie Sticks with Hummus

Why it’s effective: Sandwich wraps are small and can be eaten with a single hand, with the option of customization. Treat yourself to turkey spinach and cranberry aioli or a vegetarian and roasted pepper wrap. Cut them into pinwheels to make them bite-sized. Serve it with: Fresh veggie crisps such as carrots, cucumbers, celery, and peppers. Include a small part of hummus or ranch dip. Great with: A picnic at lunchtime on your boat rentals Toronto: fishing, swimming, or general floating-as-you-wish. Pro tip: opt for napoleons or whole-wheat, or spinach tortillas to make a better, sturdy, and non-crumbling wrap. Pro tip: Use whole wheat or spinach tortillas for a healthier, sturdier wrap that won’t fall apart.

3. Shrimp Cocktail Cups & Sparkling Lemonade

The reason it works: This combination adds a touch of elegance to your privately hired boat without needing you to cook on board. Cooked shrimp and cocktail sauce are split in individual cups to avoid dirty hands while also providing a high-protein snack. Serve with sparkling lemonade (alcoholic or not) to neutralize the shrimp’s acidity. It is modern, elegant, and entirely boat-friendly. Ideal for cruising and romancing aboard a boat that Toronto couples rave about after sunset. Boat tip: Place the shrimp cups in an ice-filled cooler to keep them fresh and safe on longer journeys.

4. Trail Mix & Energy Bites

Why it works: If you are going to spend a day cruising on Gone Adventure’s yacht rental in Toronto, the snacks should be delicious and high in protein content. An excellent source of protein, involving a combination of almonds, dried fruit, dark chocolate chips, and pretzels, is a good trail mix. Combined with: Home-made or store-bought energy treats that use oats, peanut butter, and honey. They are small, confection and offer prolonged energy in areas of swimming, sailing, and others. Ideal when: You want to experience an adventure excursion with the whole family, and you need to maintain the pace. Be a good packer: Everything should be portioned into small bags or containers so that they are not just dug into with hands, and the bonus here is to keep them sanitary and become a boat-friendly packer.

5. Charcuterie Box & Sparkling Water

Why it works: An elegant mini charcuterie board will elevate your experience. Create a cheese and cured meat tray, with prosciutto or salami, turkey jerky, olives, cherry tomatoes, nuts, and cut cheese. Serve with: Sparkling water with lemon, mint, or cucumber to give it a refreshing and cooling drink with a balanced level of water intake on hot days. Suitable for: Group outing, company parties, or hanging out with your friends on a Toronto boat rental. Pro tip: Everything can be done in advance in bento-style boxes, or even recycled containers that will be distributed easily. Include biodegradable napkins and wooden toothpicks with stylish convenience and environmentally-friendly benefits.

Final Tips for Snacking Onboard

Whether you’re renting a private yacht or participating in the greatest boat tour recommended by Toronto residents, here are a few additions to make snack time even more enjoyable:

  • And keep it cool: carry a small cooler box with an ice pack to keep perishable goods fresh. Toronto is scorching in the summer!
  • Go goo-free: Avoid crumbly dishes that may require special cutlery. Make clean-up easy.
  • Stay hydrated: Always bring some water with you when you go snacking. Even better? Add fruit to your water to give it a gourmet touch.
  • Portions: Pre-pack portions so that you do not share large pouring containers; this improves cleanliness and keeps everything within reach.
  • Napkins and wipes: You’ll be sailing outside on a breezy day, and you don’t want sauces and oils on your white shorts or the boat deck.

Gone Sailing Adventure is all about creating memories on the seas. There is nothing better than stocking your ship with the best kinds of snacks to enhance your cruise experience in every way. Therefore, travel sensibly, eat healthily, and enjoy the adventure cruise ahead!

Let the journey begin, a world of adventures, relaxation, and memories awaits!

YOUR SAFETY IS AT RISK

When considering chartering a yacht in Canada, we know you have many options. Some of these options look super exciting and at ridiculously great prices. Recent trends in the industry have opened the door for many unqualified individuals to purchase boats and offer charter services to the unsuspecting public. It’s easy to create a website and even easier to just list a boat on sites such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, Getmyboat, Boat Setter and many others.

Unfortunately, many of these operators are NOT licensed, insured or qualified to accept your trust on the water.

In order to be licensed and insured a number of items MUST be in place. Listed are just a few.

  • The operator must be licensed by Transport Canada with a commercial license known as either:
    – Limited Master under 60tonne.
    – Small Vessel Operators Permit (SVOP).
  • The name of the vessel must be visible on the stern (back) or the registration number beginning with the letter “C” must be visible on the side of the vessel near the front. Boats with a registration number beginning with “ON” are not licensed for passengers.
  • If the vessel is under 12m (40’) it should participate in the Transport Canada Small Vessel Compliance Program and display a “Blue Decal” and have corresponding certificate.
  • If the vessel is over 12m (40’) or carries more than 12 passengers, it MUST BE INSPECTED by Transport Canada and have an inspection certificate on board.
  • All vessels must have commercial liability insurance and coverage specifically for the number of passengers approved to be carried on board.
  • The vessel must comply with commercial safety requirements beyond recreational standards. Many of these illegal operators do not have the proper training, carry proper safety equipment, nor do their recreational boats meet the design/construction requirements of a commercial, passenger carrying vessel. These illegal operators try to stay under the radar of Police/OPP/RCMP/Transport Canada by:
  • hiding the name of their vessel by hanging items over the stern
  • not letting you know where they will have you board until just before the start of your charter.
  • pick you up at a public park (where docking is not permitted).
  • suggest to you that you are friends of the owner/operator out for a ride and not a paying customer.
  • allow you to drink alcohol while the boat is underway (illegal-same as a car) but tell you to hide your bottles etc.
  • insist on a cash transaction or part of it as a way of defrauding the internet listing company.
  • Make you sign a “Charter Agreement” just before you board without giving you details of the document beforehand.

Over the last few years there have been a number of deaths and even more accidents resulting from these types of operators. Be safe and know who you are getting on a boat with. All licensed operators should willingly display their credentials, and most are members of the Passenger & Commercial Vessel Association (PCVA).
